Dolomites Inn-to-Inn Hiking Tour

Your holidays in the Dolomites begin in a relaxed manner, allowing your first day to be a day of preparation and exploration of the charming town of Dobbiaco. You’ll be doing a fair share of hiking in the upcoming days, so you can take it easy today, check into your hotel, have a filling dinner at one of the local restaurants, and stroll around the valley, breathing it all in. Take some time to prepare your backpack as well and skim over the instructions for the next few days.

To start off your day, you'll take a 40-minute bus ride from Dobbiaco to the hidden jewel of Lago di Braies, enclosed in a valley by the slopes of the surrounding mountains. Here, your hiking adventure truly begins, with the path initially taking you along the lake's shores before starting to climb to the Rossalm alpine pasture. Enjoying the magnificent views of the Dolomites' most famous peaks, you'll follow a pleasant undulating path before descending to Prato Piazza alm, where you'll spend the following two nights.

Today’s hike is especially scenic, with the ascent taking you above 2,800 meters of elevation, reaching the summit of the Dürrenstein peak above Plätzwiese. The panoramic peak offers views as far as the eye can see, introducing you to the magnificent world of the Dolomites in their entirety. Once you drink it all in, you’ll return along the same path to Rifugio Prato Piazza for another night. The hike is not technically demanding but requires sure-footedness and good fitness.

The hike to the famous Olympic town of Cortina d’Ampezzo begins with a descent from the Prato Piazza plateau. You’ll follow a trail to Passo Cimabanche, from where the descent gets less steep. Following the road, it will take you around Pala de Ra Pezories peak and turn south towards Cortina. Hiking past quaint hamlets in picturesque surroundings, you’ll eventually reach the town and check into your hotel in the heart of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

There are numerous hiking trails around Cortina, all of them incredibly scenic and introducing you to a world of unforgettable views and experiences. You’ll take the Faloria gondola to its upper station, from where you’ll follow a panoramic path along the edge of the skiing plateau on Mount Falloria. Passing several picture-worthy spots, you’ll eventually cross the road to Passo Tre Croci and descend back to the town along the ski pistes on the other side of it.

The day begins with an hour-long bus ride from Cortina d’Ampezzo to Rifugio Auronzo, where you’ll venture on a circular hike around one of the symbols of the Dolomites – Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The “Three Towers” are one of the most spectacular mountains in the Dolomites and attract numerous visitors daily, be it to stand in awe from afar or climb one of their steep rock faces. The circular path leads to several viewpoints, allowing you to appreciate them fully. Once back at Rifugio Auronzo, you’ll board a bus to Dobbiaco, where you’ll spend your last night in the Dolomites.

This last day in Dobbiaco allows you to take it easy and get some rest before heading back home. You’ll have a peaceful breakfast and time to enjoy one last sunny day in the Dolomites. Grab some souvenirs and get the last taste of the luscious local cuisine before leaving Dobbiaco.
